Thermographic Test

Thermography Testing Services involve non-contact infrared inspection of electrical and mechanical systems to detect abnormal temperature variations that may indicate loose connections, overloading, insulation deterioration, phase imbalance, or incipient equipment failure. The service helps in early fault detection, prevention of unplanned outages, and improvement of system reliability and safety.

The scope of thermography testing includes infrared scanning of HT/LT switchgear panels, transformers, circuit breakers, bus bars, cable terminations, isolators, CTs, PTs, VCBs, ACBs, MCCs, PCCs, capacitor banks, and other energized electrical equipment under normal operating conditions.

The inspection shall be carried out using calibrated infrared thermal imaging cameras by qualified and experienced engineers. Identified hot spots shall be analyzed, classified as per severity levels, and compared with reference temperatures and load conditions.

Services

  • Carry out Infrared Thermography (IR) inspection of 132 kV / 220 kV / 400 kV switchyards, bays, and associated equipment under live and normal load conditions.
  • Inspection shall be carried out using calibrated, high-resolution IR thermal imaging cameras suitable for EHV applications.
  • Thermography shall be performed by trained and certified engineers with experience in EHV substations.
  • All hot spots shall be analyzed and classified as Critical / Major / Minor based on temperature rise and loading condition.
  • A detailed thermography report shall be submitted in soft and hard copy, including:
    • Substation and bay-wise thermal images
    • Visual photographs of the inspected equipment
    • Temperature values, ΔT, and load conditions
    • Severity classification and corrective recommendations
  • The work shall be carried out in compliance with OPTCL / PGCIL safety regulations, relevant IS/IEEE standards, and approved shutdown or live-line procedures.
  • Any rectification work identified during inspection shall be excluded from this scope and shall be executed separately on approval.
